As if Ultrachip wasn’t enough, I’m just back from a second weekend of low-bit musical adventures. Japanese chip legends Maru and BSK graced our shores as part of their European tour, and I had the pleasure of playing on the same bill as them in Newcastle & Liverpool along with The Tin Foil Hat Brigade, Cerebral Scars, DS-10 Dominator, HarleyLikesMusic and Chipzel. To top it all off, Saturday’s ChipFest 6 saw the first gig in 20 years for VGM legend Tim Wright, aka CoLD SToRAGE!
Friday night in Newcastle – Lo Bit Underground vol2 – was thoroughly documented by Ewan Brown, the man behind the above video and many other clips viewable here. What, you want to see a montage of me moving around onstage? Hey, no problem:
You can also download a sound desk recording of (most of) my set here – technical problems cost us the first song, no big loss…
The turnout wasn’t that big but it was made up for by the enthusiasm of the people in the room. I’ll take 20 people going crazy over 100 people standing still any time.
James TTFHB was bravely driving us through to Liverpool the same night, a 3 hour journey that didn’t look too great when the night ended at 1am. As it was we didn’t hit the road until around 3.30am, plus we had to make a diversion to drop off a random person we’d mistakenly taken along with us…
Part 2 to follow once materials appear! Thanks to Ewan/Cerebral Scars for organising & filming the event, and also for the late night chilli!
